Impending Desert Doom

When we started talking about doing a spaghetti-western themed draw-n-paint, I thought about dusting this one off and finishing it. What makes it so strange is that it's in oils(24 X 30). I really should do more painting with real paint, you get so used to the immediacy of the computer. Well, the computer is just a tool, blah blah etc. Sorry, I'll shutup now.

Dark Temple wall

An abandoned wall design from Tak 2, something I kinda liked the sketch of but never bothered to color. The final design ended up more structured(gothic), less 'swirly'.

This was an attempt at a "old-timey" portrait of this witch , I just added some frog/cow udder hands to give her a little more appeal.

This in another piece of concept from aformentioned cancelled motorcycle game. I know she's a cliche' goth, but I had fun with it.

Pickled witch

Ack, a green witch? When JoeO mentioned her nose looked like a pickle, it inspired the wall full of pickled noses(or Mountain Dew if you blur your eyes enough). Thanks, Joe.

Tusk concept

This was concept of a character named Tusk, for a cancelled motorcycle game I worked on a while ago. The inspiration was : Lemmy from Motorhead + a walrus +red hair +pith helmet w/skull =Average Biker Character. His gang was called the P.O.B's (Pretty Ornery Bikers?) tee-hee. Here's the back of his jacket, with the obligatory skull and wings-o-chrome. How original.

I went and saw the Red Hot Chili Peppers perform the other night. Flea's(bass) outfit looked like he had been dipped in a Klimt painting. Sheer Genius! The bright red shoes cracked me up too. Good show.

These are a couple of the inhabitants of the Black Mist swamp. Once again, Todd did the sketch, and I colored it.

Here's another old Tak painting, based on an original design by Todd(yes, I know he's only posted once.) I tried to "evil" it up a bit with the colors and design. It's the home of the Black Mist tribe, one of Taks opponents in the third game.

Buckey Beav

Ah, remember the early 2000's? A time when snowboarding games were all the rage? When it seemed like every developer had a snowboarding game in the works? We were not immune from this phenomenon, we also had a snowboarding game. But it couldn't last, and the game was cancelled. Our poor pal Buckey would have never seen the light of day had it not been for these newfangled blog thingys. Long live Buckey!

Kevin isn't really a zombie, he just had this awesome zombie drawing that I wanted to take my digital box of crayons to. Sorry dude.

Witchy Poo Two

'nother ball point witch, this one is labeled so JoeO won't be confused as to the subject matter. She kinda reminds me of the character at the party in the movie Nacho Libre who likes Esqueleto. I should probably finish the necklace, but she creeps me out a little.

This one started as a ball point pen drawing, and grew up to be a color sketch in painter. I tried to leave some of the lines, but I really wanted to paint them out.

The Mighty Fenway

When I was in Boston last week, I took the opportunity to catch a game @ Fenway Park. A pretty amazing game, in a packed stadium with crazy(in a good way) fans. A truly enjoyable experience. I guess it's kind of art related, but mostly for my 'lil bro in Missouri ('sup Shaner)

Barrrnacles

At Siggraph after being completely impressed by the artistry put into creating the Davey Jones character, I wanted to do a 'lil drawing of it. I imagine they had some fun at ILM putting in all of the barnacle-y detail. I know it's fan art. I'm a fan.

Back to Blogging

I'm back from Siggraph , which was in Boston this year. It was a pretty busy week, so I didn't get much time to draw. I'll post some doodles I did with a ball point pen later, but I'm not too stoked on them. I like to sketch with that sometimes because it's so unforgiving. You can't erase or hit ctrl+z to save yourself. But then you can scan in that same drawing and fix it on the computer. At Siggraph I got to try one of those Cintiq tablets that Wacom makes, it's kind of bizarre after getting used to the way a regular tablet works. It's 2500 bucks, so I don't think I'll be purchasing one anytime soon. I also got to talk to some of the fine folks at Corel, about Painter and how much I love it. The animation theater was really cool this year, although they did have some shorts that were technically brilliant, but just didn't have any heart at all. I was impressed by one that didn't make it into the main show, but should have. It was about an Alien BBQ(maybe it was called that?) done by a studio in Spain. Great story, great visuals, great animation. There was another one about bunnies and robots(huh?) that I enjoyed as well. I'll stop trying to remember them all, too much information.

Imaginary Friend--in color

I tried to do a happy color version of this sketch, it ended up getting a little muddy. Maybe if I changed the baseball to a vial of crack it might work better. I don't know.

Dark Juju concept

Since my good buddy Todd won't post anything, I'll take this opportunity to post a collaborative piece of concept we did from Tak 3. He designed the body, I designed the head and did the coloring. By the way, nothing says dark and evil like the color purple. Did I mention he has a French accent too? Pure evil (sorry Sebastian).

Again with another older painting. It's so sad to see a Dark Sith Lord let himself go like that. Ah, the lost potential(oh wait, he got cut in half by Obi-Wan anyway).

Imaginary Friend

An older drawing, the first art challenge--the theme was "imaginary friend." The idea was something hideous(the face) combined with something familiar(the Mickey ears+Spongebob attire.
